Nail fungus is commonly found in places that are dark, warm, and moist. This means that places like the inside of your shoes, public pools, and gym locker rooms are great places for fungus to breed. However, most people don’t end up with an infection unless they also have an open wound for the microscopic fungus to enter through.  This means that to really prevent an infection you need to take good care of your toes, too. When you trim your nails, make sure you cut straight across (not in a curved fashion), and then file them down to your desired shape. This will prevent an ingrown nail. Take care of any wounds on your feet immediately and finish with an antibacterial ointment. If you go to the pool or gym always wear shower shoes to protect your feet.
