The general rule of thumb for replacing a pair of running shoes is 300-500 miles. This is because after this amount of time your shoes will begin to deteriorate, which can cause less shock absorption where it’s needed. However, all shoes are made differently and all feet that wear them work differently so it’s best to listen to your body. If you feel like your shoes are becoming stiffer after 200 miles then replace them sooner, or conversely if you still feel good after 600 miles just keep going. We also recommend that you have a few pairs of athletic shoes to switch between so that your feet are less stressed. If you would like more advice on running shoes just give Dr. Mitchell Wachtel a call at (978) 794-8406 to schedule an appointment at one of our three Massachusetts office locations.
