“Hi I’m Dr. Mitchell Wachtel and today we’re going to talk about big toe pain. We see lots of big toe pain in our practice. This pain can be caused by arthritis, trauma, gout, it can be from the length of the bone being too long causing jamming. So the easiest thing we can do in our practice is take an x-ray which we have in all of our offices and after the x-ray we can assess what type(s) of problem(s) there are.If you have what we suspect is gout, it can be determined through further tests such as blood drawing. Gout is a condition where uric acid builds up and develops in your body and you can’t get rid of it or secrete it.

If you have big toe pain the treatments are simple; one could be a custom orthotic that goes in your shoe. A shoe change can also be done. For the betterment of all our patients, our offices have a shoe store where we can order a shoe to accommodate your deformity. Sometimes surgery is necessary, even cortisone injections.

So if you have big toe joint pain, please give us a call at 978-794-8406. We have offices in North Andover, Lowell, and Haverhill.”
