People with diabetes already have so much to worry about that getting relief from neuropathy pain should not be a main concern. However, for many people it still is. With good disease management (exercising, eating healthy foods, keeping your blood sugar levels low) you should be able to decrease the risk of neuropathy.

Those who have neuropathy need to take extra special precautions to make sure it doesn’t become an even bigger problem. To keep pain at bay, try soaking your feet in warm water, but check the temperature first so that you don’t burn yourself. You can also massage your feet with capsaicin cream, use medications or vitamins prescribed by a doctor, and try certain relaxation techniques, such as meditation.

If you have neuropathy it’s very important to check your feet daily to make sure there are no wounds that won’t heal. If you do find a non-healing wound, call Dr. Mitchell Wachtel, podiatrist North Andover, at (978) 794-8406 to schedule an appointment in one of our three Massachusetts locations.
