I’m Dr. Mitchell Wachtel and today we’re going to talk about ankle sprains. Many of our patients come in after spraining their ankle with moderate swelling of the ankle/foot that hurts incredibly. We’re able to x-ray and diagnose and treat their problem. We have a multitude of different braces and other applications patients can put on their foot so that when they leave the office they’ve got a moderate amount of relief.

Sometimes treatments involve injections to reduce swelling inside of the ankle. Many times patients leave the office and swelling has been reduced, they get medicine for the pain so they can function normally. We try to decrease the swelling first as that’s our main focus and the way we do it is with a device either for the ankle/foot. Many times orthotics provide a long-term solution after they’ve sprained their ankle and that’s a device we actually put into the shoe.”
