Will the Bruins make it to the NHL finals again this hockey season? We sure hope so! One of the most popular kid’s sports today is ice hockey, but it can also lead to a number of foot injuries. If you ask any of the Boston Bruins, they will probably tell you the same thing–taking care of your feet during hockey season is important. Here are some tips on how to do just that.
Ankle sprains are commonly associated with playing ice hockey. This injury can happen when the skate gets caught in the ice or when a players falls over the front of the skates. You can usually treat this type of sprain using the RICE method: rest, icing, compression, and elevation.
Another commonly seen condition is called a “skate bite.” It occurs when the skates are laced too tightly at the top of the skate but not tightly enough at the bottom. Ice can help treat this problem, but padding in the skate can help prevent it from occurring in the first place.
Hockey players sometimes suffer from toe fractures from direct contact with either a puck or a stick. The broken toe must be immobilized and rested for a period of time. It’s important to visit our office for correct healing of this type of injury
