Running requires stamina. The ability to allow your muscles and tendons to get used to the workload you put on your body is important when considering running long distances.  Rest is very important in between runs.  The amount of days you take breaks should not be too long or too short.  Remember, overuse injuries of the tendons and muscles of the foot and ankle area can occur and usually are caused by pushing your body and not preparing for long runs with pre-stretching and proper rest periods between exercises.

Preparing for a marathon usually takes several months. There will be weeks you will increase your workload and times you will pull back and decrease your runs.  Proper rest periods are just as important when running is mechanical balance to prevent injuries in the Lower extremity.  Custom foot orthotics are an extremely effective way of preventing overuse injuries and proper balance.  Some of the most common running injuries that occur in the foot and ankle are Achilles Tendonitis and plantar fasciitis which both can be treated with custom orthotics.
