If you have heel pain, it is most likely being caused by plantar fasciitis. This is a condition that develops when the band of tissue that runs down your sole from heel to toe gets inflamed. The pain is usually worse in the morning or after resting for a period of time, improving when the foot limbers up a bit. People who are at a higher risk of suffering from this condition are those who exert a lot of pressure on their feet, such as runners or obese people. Physical therapy or a custom-made orthotic can help fix the problem and ease your pain. In extreme cases, more invasive measures such as steroid shots, extracorporeal shockwave therapy, or surgery may be necessary. For more information on treating plantar fasciitis, call Dr. Mitchell Wachtel at one of our three Massachusetts office locations.
