As parents, some of your most joyous moments are watching your children take their first steps. Just keep in mind that not all first steps will look exactly as you had planned. Gait abnormalities are very common in children. Some parents will wonder what the difference is between certain conditions; for example, in-toeing vs. out-toeing.In-toeing is very common and is usually the result of your child’s legs being in a cramped position while in the womb. This usually resolves itself by age 4 or 5. Out-toeing can be more worrisome. It can be the result of something as simple as flat feet, but it can also signify a neurological disorder. It’s a good idea to get your child checked out if they have a gait abnormality just to be sure everything looks good.
